2022 Blind Australian of the Year Finalist from WA, Dr Geraldine Lane, is a mother of twins, a former nurse, a pioneer in IT assistive technology, a gifted musician, a teacher, and a University Academic with 9 degrees. Geraldine has won a number of awards for Excellence in Teaching. In her spare time, she is learning Russian, which helps improve communication, as she teaches English to a Ukrainian refugee who is resettling in Australia. All this whilst managing a chronic illness that claimed her eyesight and affects her mobility, and while battling the inequities of employment situations for people who live with disability. She achieved much of this while providing for her family as a single parent and sole provider. She is now happily married.
