2024 Awards Gala – Reggie Sorensen

Join us at the Blind Australian of the Year Awards Gala 2024 where all our guests will be welcomed on the Red Carpet by two time Big Brother Australia winner, Reggie Sorensen.

Reggie is the much-loved Fish and Chip maker from a little village in Tasmania who became the only person to win Australian TV’s biggest popularity contest – TWICE!

She shot to fame in 2003 when she won the hearts of all Australia and was overwhelmingly voted the winner of Big Brother 2003.

Besides her diagnosis of Retinitis Pigmentosa two years later in 2005, the ensuing years presented her with many other challenges such as being found to have an extremely rare genetic disorder which will eventually take her hearing as well, giving birth to her son who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis and two broken marriages that left her penniless.

Things that individually would break most people but Reggie still greets every day with a beaming smile and infectious personality, and has essentially raised her two beautiful children all by herself.

It took 19 years before television invited her back into the Big Brother house in 2022, and naturally she won it – AGAIN! She managed it and the extremely physically demanding challenges whist only having 9 degrees of pin-hole vision.

Everyone thinks they know Reggie but be assured the full story is much more engaging and emotional than you could ever imagine.

She stands as a uniquely iconic character who is a true inspiration to all people, but especially other vision impaired people, and is an advocate for people living with a wide variety of disabilities.
